By Canadian artist Howard Fox
I was privately commissioned to create a painting entitled Heaven.
I proceeded to question people on what they thought Heaven is; what it looks, feels and smells like. Most folks built a picture of the cliche sun-drenched island surrounded by ocean: idyllic, quiet, warm, an aroma of coconuts.
Yet I sensed that this was a learned reaction rather than the truth. I chose to paint a heaven where people experienced what they enjoyed in life: shopping, drinking, food, rock music, sports, naked virgins, rich architecture, the oceans, forest, mountains, streams and waterfalls - a mix of the majesty of nature with the common joys of day-to-day existence.
This piece revolves around the Ten Sfirot of The Kaballah. The Sfirot represent the balance between all the elements of the physical body and soul. Its wholeness and perfection is found in the Garden of Eden.
